Flood Development Ordinance
Article V of Chapter 5 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Troy, Alabama, Flood Development Ordinance aims to promote the public health, safety and general welfare and to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions in specific areas.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the development of Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) has delineated the 100-Year floodplain for communities participating in the NFIP. It is used by FEMA as the basis for administering their floodplain management programs, through regulatory requirements as well as for settings for flood insurance rates. The NFIP requirements apply to areas mapped as Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) issued by FEMA.
