Come visit, and take a walk around. You’ll find a vibrant shopping district and fantastic restaurants, windows to browse with lots to buy, beautiful historic homes, and lovely local parks. Located in the heart of our historic downtown, you’ll find the Johnson Center for the Arts, a fabulous museum located in the fully restored 1911 Post Office. This museum has wonderful exhibits year round, and offers guided tours for individuals and groups.
Troy is also home to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama, a 35 acre park dedicated to the pioneer way of life. The main building has a gift shop and over 18,000 artifacts. Much of pioneer life is represented by the farm tools, clothing, kitchen utensils, and much more. These items offer an opportunity to personally view actual artifacts in use in Pike County and Southern Alabama throughout the 1800’s and the early 1900’s. The museum also houses the Conecuh River Depot Military Museum, a private collection of military artifacts.
We are proud to be the home to Troy University. In 2010, Forbes Magazine ranked Troy University 16th nationally as a “best buy” in higher education, and for the sixth year in a row, The Princeton Review named TROY to its “Best in the Southeast” list that includes 133 colleges and universities in the Southeast. Only 623 colleges and universities nationwide made the cut for inclusion. In addition to NCAA sporting events, Troy University also is home to the Claudia Crosby Community Theater and the Alabama Bandmaster’s Hall of Fame.
