4th Of July Celebration

The spectacular City of Troy July 4th fireworks display lights up the sky over Troy each year. Held annually on the 4th of July at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, this is one of the largest fireworks display in our area.

Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

The Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run is held every May to coincide with the Alabama Special Olympics State Games. The run starts out in north Alabama on Thursday and then makes its way south, stopping in the Birmingham area overnight and then on to Montgomery and Troy.  The State Games Opening Ceremony convenes on Friday evening in the Troy University Veterans Memorial Stadium. The event featured the Flame of Hope being carried into the stadium by members of the agencies that participate in the Cops on Top fund-raising campaign. Over 50 uniformed officers and deputies form a rank along the front of the stage as the Flame passed through. 

Butter and Egg Adventures

Butter and Egg Adventures is a privately-owned day camp located on 40 scenic acres in Troy, Alabama. With a wide variety of recreational venues, Camp Butter and Egg provides the ideal location for private group events, adventure recreation, family and school gatherings, parties, and sports events. Friendly, well-trained staff members assist guests on zip lines, climbing structures, challenge courses and at waterfront activities.  With a 3200 square foot camp lodge, Camp Butter and Egg accommodates meeting and dining space for up to 125 guests with catering services available, but not required. Also located on-site is the home of Troy Baseball’s MVP Training Center which offers private and group baseball and softball training within its 8,000 square foot training facility, as well as on two full-size playing fields.

Pike County Cattlemen’s Complex

The Pike County Cattlemen’s Complex consists of a 3,000-seat rodeo arena designed to accommodate any rodeo or equestrian event. The complex has a 40-horse barn, state-of-the-art rodeo equipment, ample parking and an expo building, which includes a snack bar, restrooms and a large banquet hall. The arena has rough stock holding pens with six bucking chutes and also has a timed event end of the arena which includes three holding pens. The complex hosts the Pike County Rodeo and numerous rodeos at all levels of competition, including the Trojan Stampede each fall.

Pioneer Museum

Troy is home to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama, a 35 acre park dedicated to the pioneer way of life. The main building has a gift shop and over 18,000 artifacts. Much of pioneer life is represented by the farm tools, clothing, kitchen utensils, and much more.  These items offer an opportunity to personally view actual artifacts in use in Pike County and Southern Alabama throughout the 1800′s and the early 1900′s. The museum also houses the Conecuh River Depot Military Museum, a private collection of military artifacts.

Special Olympics

For the past several years, Troy has been host to the Special Olympics Alabama State Games.  Some 800 athletes and about 350 of their coaches and chaperons will compete May 20 – 22, 2011 in the Special Olympics at Troy University. Competitions will include 10 sports conducted both on the Troy Campus and at venues in the city of Troy, beginning with the opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. May 20 in Veterans Memorial Stadium. The ceremony will include a parade of athletes, entertainment and a fireworks show. Sporting events begin on May 21 at 9 a.m. at various venues. Events include swimming, gymnastics, equestrian, bowling, track and field, softball, tennis, bocce, power lifting and golf. A Victory Dance will be held Saturday night. Closing ceremonies will be conducted May 22 and will include a memorial service for those athletes who have died in the past year.

Troy Arboretum

The Troy University Arboretum is a botanical garden and nature preserve located next to the Troy University main campus. It includes more than 300 different species of trees, as well as a 2.5-mile nature trail with a swamp, stream, and pond. The Arboretum works to preserve representative members, communities and habitats of the Wiregrass region of Southeast Alabama on its 75-acres adjacent to Troy University’s main campus and on its 18 acre Pocosin Nature Preserve located approximately 6 miles due east of the main campus.

Veterans Day Celebration

Each Veteran’s Day, the Colley Senior Complex honors our brave men and women of the armed forces by hosting a Veteran’s Day breakfast. More than 200 veterans from all branches of the military attend this event. Immediately following the breakfast, the City of Troy and the American Legion Post 70 hosts the Veteran’s Day Celebration at Bicentennial Park.

Downtown Events

Brown Bag On The Square

Beginning in the spring, the City of Troy hosts Brown Bag on the Square once a month. Troy has a beautiful downtown area filled with blooming flowers and a quaint brick walkway. The focal point of downtown is the Gazebo, donated by Gertrude Stephens in honor of her late husband, Otis. Local musicians play for the crowd while they enjoy a picnic lunch. In April, the City hosts Kindergarten Brown Bag. This is a wonderful opportunity to come enjoy our beautiful downtown area.

City Of Troy Annual Christmas Parade

The City of Troy Annual Christmas Parade is held every year on the first Monday in December. Bring your family for loads of fun including marching bands, floats, walkers, antique cars and more. Immediately following the parade is the Tree Lighting Ceremony. Parade begins at 6:00 p.m.

Farmer’s Market

Each spring, local growers are encouraged to bring their goods to the Farmers Market, located just off the square in downtown Troy. All producers grow or make what they sell. The goal is to provide fresh quality produce at affordable prices. The market participates in the Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Troy University Homecoming Parade

Downtown plays hosts to the Troy University Homecoming Parade each year. Thousands of alumni, dignitaries, students and community members line the streets of downtown Troy to celebrate the parade on the morning of the football game. This event is hosted by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.
